Visit Haiti's Trois Baies Marine Protected Area, find out about the native flora and fauna and the growing threats to their ecosystems in this interactive 3D map story.
This Creole language interactive tour of Haiti's coastlines was created as part of a reporting project with the Haiti Climat news agency and funded by the Society for Environmental Journalists. Flying low over the coastline, it highlights the location of Haiti's seven marine protected areas, just over a decade old and still struggling to consolidate, then zooms into the fragile ecosystem of the Trois Baies Protected area on the north coast. The location of coral and mangrove are revealed, based on up-to-date GIS data, and icons representing some of the endangered species of the region appear. Click on icon displays more information about each species and between stages of the tour, users are encouraged to explore the map and discover more species.
